Good news guys and girls be careful! Our Ooo la la lady is back to seduce yet again but, this time in a saree! And if you still miss her ‘Good morning… Mumbai’ from Lage Raho Munnai Bhai, here’s a chance for you to indulge in some nostalgia!
Vidya Balan’s next ‘Tumhari Sulu’ has the star playing a late night RJ and the new trailer of the film elaborates this side of her character.
The trailer has Vidya playing Sulochana, a housewife who is a regular caller at a radio station and has won many small gifts like a pressure cooker in the contests until one day, she spots an opportunity of becoming a radio jockey. Neha Dhupia plays the radio station producer in the film and has an idea of transforming the “saree-wali bhabhi to a late night RJ.” Actor Manav Kaul plays Vidya’s husband in the film along with popular Mumbai RJ Malishka who plays a radio jockey in the film.
This trailer of the film also carries a reprised version of the hit song, Hawa Hawai. The original song appeared in the 1987 film ‘Mr. India’ and had Sridevi dancing to it. The film is directed by Suresh Triveni and is all set to release on November 17.
Talking about the project Suresh had earlier stated, “Middle-class housewives have been portrayed as hassled and troubled in Hindi films, but I’m a huge Hrishikesh Mukherjee fan and he showed that even middle-class families can be happy. I want the audience to walk out with a big smile on their face.”
Suresh spoke about recreating Mr. India’s popular song Hawa Hawai to leading tabloid saying, “Music plays an important role in our film as it is set in the world of radio. The song isn’t just a promotional track. It appears at an important point in the story.”
He further added, “Vidya’s Sulu is a big fan of Sridevi and we wanted to pay a true tribute to the original, reviving it in its full glory.”

Vidya Balan is one versatile actress who believes that beauty can’t be boxed and certainly goes beyond being all dolled up at all hours, staying away from wearing shoe-biting stilettos and layers of makeup. Rather what makes her unstoppable is the ease she finds in her own skin. Vidya has never taken the conventional route of shedding kilos unnaturally to fit in. She professes the idea of loving oneself and embracing the beautiful mess one is. With massive hits like ‘Kahaani’, ‘The Dirty Picture’ and ‘No One Killed Jessica’ among others, Vidya has constantly emerged as a better actress with every movie. And now it’s time to make room for ‘Tumhari Sulu’ which is a slice-of-life comedy as opposed to her last film, ‘Begum Jaan’.
Vidya, who is all geared up for Tumhari Sulu, says that she has given her 200 percent to the film and hailed it as one of the best scripts she came across in a long time.
“It was an exceptional experience working with (director) Suresh Triveni. The day he narrated me the whole script, it was one of the best scripts I’ve heard in the longest time. But during the filming, a lot of changes happened. “We all thought we can make the film better, so everyone gave 200 percent from the heart, it was tiring at times, but at the end, there was immense satisfaction,” said Vidya Balan at the trailer launch of the film.
Vidya is known for hard-hitting and intense roles but with Tumhari Sulu, she will be seen in a whole new funny and full of life avatar, which, according to her, is amazing.

“I definitely know that I’ve not had fun on the screen for a while. I’ve been playing very intense and heavy characters, and after a long time, I got to play this character, who is always smiling, laughing and making people laugh. I do think it is precious to make people smile and laugh, and if a film is able to do that, it is amazing. I was definitely missing that in my life,” said Vidya Balan.
Vidya Balan, who is one of the board members of Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), said she was enjoying her new role.
“I am enjoying being a board member. A lot of people don’t know what it means to be a board member. We don’t watch all the films, only when there is a problem, we see the film. So I have seen very few films, which is good news,” she said.
‘Tumhari Sulu’ had marked December 1, 2017, as the initial release date but the makers shifted the date to avoid a clash with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus, ‘Padmavati’. With the film getting a clean ‘U’, fans of the actress are waiting eagerly for the film to hit the theatres.
