Niantic, a company that builds real-world experiences for mobile games, came up with a location based augmented reality game for Android devices in 2012 called Ingress.

Last year, Niantic decided to bring back the craze of augmented reality and excite its fans by introducing Pokémon Go. This game too was location based. We all know how crazy people went trying to “catch ’em all.”

Niantic is back in news and it’s a good one for all Potter fans! You’ve guessed it right! Yes, its augmented reality + location based marriage brings us none other than Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. This game is the brainchild of Warner Bros and Niantic Inc. and they’re about to fuse the real world with the magical.

This gem of a gaming experience encourages you to step outside with your phone, explore your local surroundings and take part in a series of adventures, such as searching for magical creatures. You might just bump into iconic witches and wizards and other characters along the way!

You’ll also be able to cast spells, discover mysterious artefacts, and climb up the wizarding career ladder.

A Reddit user, Toolindaris, made a sketch of how the game would possibly look like.

Another Reddit user, shishir_s2r, posted a question in the /r/harrypotterwu thread, asking fans what are their expectations from the game in terms of features. The answers varied from wanting something as detailed as a Marauder’s Map for the WORLD to something as simple as drawing shapes for casting spells. You can read the entire thread, here.

A 2015 released, crowdfunded game called Maguss was fairly close to people’s current expectations from Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. It also seems like you’ll be able to relive the earlier version of Pottermore – cast spells, duel, make potions, explore hidden locations, kill someone, die, or worse – get expelled.

What’s more? An entirely new publishing label called Portkey Games is being created which will give us more Harry Potter related console and mobile games.

While the release date and more details about Harry Potter: Wizards Unite are yet to be announced, probably sometime in 2018, you can check out their brand-new website, here.

We just hope our energy levels don’t run out by then.
