Controversy and Shahid Afridi goes hand-in-hand. The former Pakistani cricketer has lived up to ‘the reputation’ again by publicly commenting about Kashmir. He said, ‘Pakistan doesn’t want Kashmir. It can’t even take care of its four provinces.’

While addressing students at the British parliament, Shahid spoke for an ‘independent Kashmir’ for the sake of humanity. He said, “I say Pakistan doesn’t want Kashmir. Don’t give it to India either. Let Kashmir be independent. At least humanity will be alive. Let people not die. Pakistan doesn’t want Kashmir. It can’t even manage its four provinces.”

However, the former sports star’s comments have been taking negatively by many Indians. Which pushed him to tweet about how Indian media ‘misconstructed’ his statement. To add, he went on to conflict his own statements by tweeting, “My clip is incomplete & out of context as what I said before that is missing. Kashmir is unresolved dispute & under brutal Indian occupation. It must be resolved as per UN resolution. Myself along with every Pakistani support Kashmiri freedom struggle. Kashmir belongs to Pakistan”.

Let’s not forget the fact that he’s the same person who had multiple ‘retirements’ and more than one ‘last matches’ in his cricketing career. So, to be honest, his statements shouldn’t surprise us.
