There is a new trailer for The Simpsons and Futurama creator Matt Groening’s new Netflix show Disenchantment. Considering that both shows are classics and The Simpson’s television run is nothing short of legendary, this show has a lot going for it and a lot to live up to already!
Although Futurama and The Simpsons may have embraced a younger audience, according to the creator, this series is strictly for adults. Described as sort of an animated Game of Thrones, it follows Bean, a princess with a major drinking problem, her elf companion, Elfo, and personal demon Luci. It presumably parodies fantasy shows in the same way that Futurama parodied sci-fi. It was described by John DiMaggio, who voices Bender on Futurama as the offspring of The Simpsons and Game of Thrones. Game of Thrones has been parodied on the Simpsons before, but the idea of an entire show based around this concept is definitely interesting.
Matt Groening’s first original creation in twenty years, the show stars the voice talents of Eric Andre and Abbi Jacobson. They’ll be joined by the likes of Matt Berry, Noel Fielding, David Herman, Billy West, Maurice LaMarche, Tress MacNeille, Jeny Batten, Rich Fulcher, and Lucy Montgomery. Rough Draft Studios — who worked with Groening on Futurama are behind the animation.
“Ultimately,” Groening said in a statement, “Disenchantment will be about life and death, love and sex, and how to keep laughing in a world full of suffering and idiots, despite what the elders and wizards and other jerks tell you.”
Whether or not this show lives up to its ridiculous pedigree, we’ll have to wait, watch and see!
