1. It’s about time we get some interesting content to watch as the Indian viewer. Most of you would be binging on the US and UK series and even movies (in a way that’s where our most of the Bollywood movies get inspiration from 😛 ). But this weekend Netflix has blessed us with its short drama movie called Lust Stories. If you haven’t seen the trailer yet here it is.

It is a compilation of 4 stories by 4 prominent directors of the industry. Anurag Kashyap, Zoya Akhtar, Dibakar Banerjee and Karan Johar. The movies stars Radhika Apte, Akash Thosar, Bhumi Pednekar, Manisha Koirala, Sanjay Kapoor, Neel Bhoopalam, Vicky Kaushal, Kiara Advani and Jaideep. While the performance of the stars have been exceptional, its the story that we could find so relatable.

Lot has been talked about Love but Lust is still considered to be on the sins. The unspoken emotion and hidden behind the doors. We feel it, we live it but yet we don’t talk about it. Considering the situation of sex which is still a taboo topic it is not unusual that people refrain from talking about lust.

The characters in the movie remind you about your own raw emotions and hypocrisies of our modern life. Coming from the 4 women perspective, it’s time we paid attention to women desires and her need to be in or out of any relationship.

All 4 women are in shown in different stages of life but are facing one common problem: Sexual Freedom. The funny part where women are only seen as carriers of babies and have no desire for physical fulfillment once their this part is done in life shows where most of India still stands. It’s time women make their own stance and choices when it comes to sex and masturbation. Though this might be debated and taken as an offence by the conservative society, we must not forget that the youth are being ready to take their space and are educated enough to take calculative decisions. In the end it’s all about living their life on their own terms. After All we got just one, why waste following other people’s choices?

The first story is of Kalindi (Radhika Apte) and her subconscious possessiveness to her student Tejas (Akash Thosar) with whom she has sex. Her inner monologue makes us realize the hypocrisy we live in and how well we assume the damage of the situation without any fire raging in the background. Apte as usual is class apart and is perfectly relatable.

The second story is by Zoya Akhtar which stars Bhumi and Neel. Bhumi being the maid servant of the house has an affair with Bachelor of the house Neel. When she realizes that Neel is about to get married, she is shown controlling her emotions and reactions to everything that is unfolding in front of her. While she has just 2 words to say in the entire sequence, her expressions says it all. She is seen going through happiness, sadness, regret, anger, frustration, realization and is seen moving on with her head held high despite all that happened. Which is what makes her performance as Sudha fabulous in every way.

The 3rd story is about Reena played Manisha Koirala who is going through troubled relationship for a decade almost with her husband Sanjay Kapoor. She has found solace in her husbands friend Sudhir played by Jaideep Ahlawat. She is outspoken, confident and does not feel any shame about her relationship with Sudhir. She has been emotionally abused by her husband for so long that she refrains now from living her life on his terms. Her husband is literally a man-child  and is all about male ego and pride amongst the peers.

The last story is about Megha played by Kiara Advani and her marriage to Paras (Vicky Kaushal). The plot revolves around a fresh marriage and the selfish attitude of the husband when it comes to sex and orgasm. She knows her husbands gonna take exactly 5 counts until he comes. The situation where she is asked by her mother in law to bear 2 kids and get done with the desire part shows how shallow one women can think for another. In the end she resorts to taking matter in her own hands (like literally) which sparks of typical reactions from her family.

All we could say is one should not be sorry for making their own choices and living life the way to want to as far as it does not hamper other person’s life. It is indeed a must watch for everyone out there! Go for it!
