It is a proud moment for Egypt National Football Team and Liverpool football club as Egypt forward Mohamed Salah is named the CAF African player of the year for the year 2017. The 25-year-old beats Senegalese’s Sadio Mane to win the African player of the year. Salah scored the goal that secured his country a place at this year’s World Cup. He is in a great form since signing for the Reds.

Salah has scored 23 goals for Liverpool already this season following his summer move from Roma. He is the second top scorer in the Premier League behind Tottenham’s Harry Kane. With this win, Salah joins the list of players such as Didier Drogba, Roger Milla, George Weah and Yaya Toure.

Mohamed Salah polled 625 points following Sadio Mane with 507 votes from the voting panel made up of national team captains and coaches with a selection of officials and journalists. He was announced a clear winner of the award at the glitzy gala dinner on Thursday night by the Confederation of African Football.
