History repeated and India yet again defeated Bangladesh in iconic fashion to clinch their 7th Asia Cup title.
Rohit Sharma seems to be a lucky charm as India has managed to win every series/tournament under his captaincy so far. Opener Shikhar Dhawan grabbed the Man of the Tournament award to add another feather to Indian cricket team’s cap.
After basking in the glory of Asia Cup victory, Men in Blue have new things to look forward to. So next up— West Indies Tour of India.
While team India is amidst having a busy season away from home, the West Indies Series would make way for the players to relish the support of the home crowd before they head to Australia and New Zealand.
Skipper Virat Kohli would be joining his side after a short rest. Mayank Agarwal and Mohammad Siraj earn their maiden call-ups for the Test team. India’s Test opening duo Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay have lost their places and so do Dinesh Karthik who couldn’t put up a notable performance in England. Karun Nair is left out of the squad too. Hanuma Vihari and Rishabh Pant along with Prithvi Shaw have retained their places.
Hardik Pandya’s injury means India would be without a pacer-allrounder against WI. However, the impactful allrounders (in sub-continent) Ravi Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja are expected to fill that void. Ishant Sharma couldn’t make it into the Indian side as the pacer is still nursing an injury. In another bold move, the pace spearheads Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah are also rested.
Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav and Shardul Thakur would be handling the bowling department and Siraj would be the fourth option.
Ravi Shastri has been both, criticised and appreciated by fans and pundits. For the very same reason, the upcoming series is crucial for the Indian coach. The Series which includes 2 Tests, 5 ODIs and 3 T20Is would be commencing from 4th of October.
