When it comes to cricket all the talk is about the men in blue, but not this time as Jhulan Goswami becomes the first ever bowler in the world to take 200 ODI wickets. She bagged her 200th wicket as she dismissed South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt in the second match at the Diamond Oval in Kimberley in the three-ODI series. Cathryn Fitzpatrick of Australia is behind Goswami with 180 ODI wickets, who retired in 2007.
Batting first after winning the toss, the Indian team scored 213 runs at the loss of seven wickets. This was all possible due to the splendid innings of 84 by Smriti Mandhana and 45 runs by captain Mithali Raj. The South African women’s team only managed to score 125 runs. Jhulan Goswami took mind-blowing 4 wickets for India. Following her, Shikha Pandey took 3 wickets.
Last year on May 9, Jhulan had become the leading wicket-taker in women’s ODIs which also came playing against South Africa when she trapped Raisibe Ntozakhe LBW during the women’s Quadrangular series. The 35-year-old is currently ranking at No. 2 in ODIs as Indian players currently dominate the world records in women’s ODI.
In the year 2007, Jhulan was the women’s player of the year. She was averaging at 12.40 in Test matches and 21.80 in ODIs while her economy rate of 2.10 in Tests and 3.17 in ODIs showcases her talent. She played her first ODI against England in 2002, and has so far played in 10 Test matches, 165, and 60 T20s in her cricket career. She has a record of a total 289 wickets in all formats of cricket.

Jhulan Goswami becomes first female cricketer to take 200 ODI Wickets. First male cricketer to the milestone was also Indian – Kapil Dev in 1991.
The incredible part is both Jhulan and Kapil reached the milestone in the same number of ODIs – 166!
