Indian eves took their lead from a 9th minute Lalremsiami goal. Last minute of the third quarter saw Neha Goyal finding the back of the net and Vandana Kataria got the best out of the opposition in the 55th minute by extending the lead further. The final whistle from the referee put Italy out of their misery.
Indian team enters the quarters after 40 long years! The last time they saw QFs was in Madrid in 1978.
“We came here to win this game,” said captain Rani Rampal. She further added, “We came here to win this game. We all knew this was an important game and we scored in every opportunity that we got. We are preparing for the next match.”
Indian team managed to defend Italy’s counter-attacks, something which they rely the most on.
Along with Hockey India, our very own Sir Ravindra Jadeja took some time off his England tour to congratulate the Women.
