Australians have pulled the series level by defeating India by 146 runs at Perth. The pitch worked against the visitors who had lost the toss and had to field first.

Let us review the match innings by innings.

Nathan Lyon: Man of the Match

India began their innings by sustaining massive blows as they lost their openers too soon. Other than Virat Kohli (123) and Ajinkya Rahane (51), none could survive between the wicket. Nathan Lyon’s fifer broke Indian batting lineup’s backbone. Team India got bundled out for 283. The innings also saw some sledging happening between both the captains, Tim Paine and Virat Kohli.

2nd Innings (AUSTRALIA)

With a lead of 46 runs, the Kangaroos stepped in to bat for the second time. Indian bowlers did a good job at keeping the Australian batsmen restricted. However, Usman Khawaja was an exception. His 72 runs made him the sole survivor among the failed Australian innings.
Mohammad Shami helped India get 6 wickets. Bumrah got 3 and Ishant Sharma, 1.

With a target of 286 runs ahead of them, the visitors had some hope by their side. But alas! India lost the fight eventually. The top scorers for India were Ajinkya Rahane and Rishabh Pant with just 30 runs each.

Nathan Lyon stood up to the occasion yet again by picking three wickets. He was accompanied by Mitchell Starc who also picked 3. The set was completed with Hazlewood and Pat Cummins grabbing 2 scalps each.

The 5-Test series is now drawn at 1-1 with the 3rd one set to commence from Boxing day (26th December) at MCG.
