The curiosity and wait for film Padmavati to release has got us all excited and desperate. December 1st still seems very far and we just can’t wait. Thanks to the brilliant marketing strategy used by the filmmakers, the excitement level goes on increasing with every news and updates.

The recent one to stir up your emotions is the release of the first song “Ghoomar”! As you may be aware that the movie is based on the relationship between Queen Padmavati and king Ratan Singh of Chittorgarh and Sultan Alauddin Khilji. We will be witnessing the majestic fortress and heritage of Rajasthan.

Not leaving any stone unturned is this masterpiece released today called Ghoomar. Ghoomar is the traditional dance form of Rajasthan performed by the Rajput women during a celebration and gathering and is considered as one of the traditional rituals on the occasion of marriage, a bride is expected to dance the Ghoomar after being welcomed at her husband’s home.

The dance form’s specialty is its special kind of footwork. Dancers performing Ghoomar move in a circular direction with clockwise and anti-clockwise steps and in between performers unite their hands and clap. It is important that there is synchronization in the steps along with the beats of the song.

This spectacular folk dance derived its name from ‘ghoomna’. It is indeed a spectacular site when there are colorful ghagras (long skirt) flowing in sync with grace and flair. The women twirl in circles with their faces covered in veil.

Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali has gone to great lengths to ensure that it is the most riveting song sequence he has ever shot. As we have seen earlier in Pinga, Nagade sang, dholi taro, ram leela, manmohini, etc. the set and ambience is always fascinating along with proper training given to the actors by the professionals to ensure that the dance form comes out perfectly. Deepika learned the dance form under the renowned Ghoomar expert Jyoti D Tommaar, who runs the only authentic Ghoomar school. The song stays true to the traditional Rajputana folk dance form.

If this is the preview you may well know how the movie is going to be! We are all geared up, are you?
