Over the years, OnePlus has established itself as another choice if you’re looking for a feature-packed smartphone, but without the big price tag. The phone maker doesn’t release as many devices as Apple or Samsung but their phones deliver many of the same attractive designs and interesting features that you’d expect from an iPhone or a Galaxy handset.
It’s against that backdrop that OnePlus is developing the OnePlus 7, the company’s next big flagship. However, that’s not all — the Chinese phone maker will also unveil a higher-end model this year, called the OnePlus 7 Pro. Here’s what we know:
It’s official: the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro will launch May 14. OnePlus will debut its two new devices concurrently in four locales: London, New York, Bangalore and Beijing.
Reported prices for the OnePlus 7 Pro have leaked, and they point to the higher-end version of the new phone costs much more than the OnePlus 6T.
It’s not really clear what the OnePlus 7 will actually cost. A person who claimed to have knowledge of OnePlus’ plans told Fudzilla that the handset could cost $649 to start, making it much cheaper than flagship Android phones like the Galaxy S10 and Note 9. But that would be an unusually high price for a OnePlus phone, which tends to cost only a little more than its predecessor. The OnePlus 6T cost $549, for example, so a $100 jump seems unlikely.
How many models
Normally, OnePlus announces a single phone, with variations on RAM and storage available for different prices. That’s going to change with the OnePlus 7 launch, where the phone maker will come out with two models — the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro.
OnePlus itself has already confirmed that the OnePlus 7 will feature the Snapdragon 855, Qualcomm’s latest mobile processing platform.
A major design choice
Arguably the most interesting rumour about the OnePlus 7 centres on its design and the choices it’s making with a slimmed-down look and feel.
While it’s not fully clear how exactly OnePlus is planning on hiding that selfie camera, it seems increasingly certain that whether slider or pop-out, the OnePlus 7 will put its front-facing lens away when not in use, at least when it comes to the Pro model.
OnePlus is rumoured to be including a slide-out front-facing camera in the seventh-gen model, but the company is also reportedly packing a triple-lens array on the back of the priciest OnePlus 7 Pro. According to a leaked spec sheet shared to Weibo and obtained by Slashleaks, the Pro will sport a 48-, 16- and 8-megapixel lens array, though it’s unclear what other camera features the Pro will offer.
