Cyclone Titli categorised under ‘very severe cyclone’ by Indian Meteorological Department has hit Odisha. Titli made landfall at Gopalpur between 4:30 AM and 5:30 AM today morning. The beach village was hit by the storm and everything from Trees to Electric poles were uprooted.
The government aimed for 0 casualties. As a result of which, over 3 lakh people were moved to safety. Flights and trains to and from Orissa and Andhra Pradesh have been cancelled following the calamity. The severe cyclone has hit the spot at the speed of 150 kmph as per the MDI.
“There has been no major damage or report of casualty received from any part of the state so far. Some destruction was reported from Ganjam and Gajapati districts,” Special Relief Commissioner BP Sethi said.
Gopalpur and its neighbour districts experienced heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds. CM of Orissa Naveen Patnaik had asked the district collectors to perform immediate evacuation to ensure no loss of life. So far the situation has been handled well by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Orissa Disaster Rapid Action Force and no help from Army has been taken.

The cyclone is now moving towards West Bengal with decreasing wind speed. Titli is expected to gradually weaken soon.
