26th January is already upon us. Some of you must have made plans for long weekend travelling to nearby destinations to break up from the chaos of the city you live in and spend time in peace and tranquillity. There might be few of you who weren’t very successful in making any plans or just want to chill and relax at home. In any scenario lets not forget the spirit of Republic Day. We are celebrating 68th Republic Day this Friday.
So if you plan to sit at home and relax with you loved ones, we have some suggestions of movies to bring alive the spirit.
Released in 2001, the story revolves around the lives of farmers in Champaner village and their rift with Britishers around the exploitation and their fight against the natural drought situation. Bhuvan (Aamir Khan) accepts the challenge in cricket against the British Captain Andrew Russell. If the Indians win the match they shall be refrained from playing the taxes (Lagaan) for the next 3 years in row! How do they learn this alien game and win against the atrocities of these Britishers is fun to watch.
2. Rang De Basanti
Released in 2006, this one Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan, Siddharth, Kunal Kapoor, Soha Ali Khan, Sharman Joshi, Atul Kulkarni and Alice Patten. The plot revolves around a young girl trying to create a documentary on the Indian freedom fighters based on her readings from her Grandfathers diary who was a former officer of the Indian Imperial Police. How do they go about the same and fight other demons and face the reality is what makes the audience asking for more.
3. Chak De
Released in 2007, this one stars Shah Rukh Khan as a coach to women Indian Hockey team and prepares them for World Cup. He is also considered to be a traitor who betrayed his country and this is his chance to prove his love and loyalty for his country. The movie will keep you on the edge of your seat while you cheer for Team India.
Starring Aamir Khan, Sonali Bendre and Naseeruddin Shah in leading roles, the movie released in 1999 but still successfully captures our heart with the mind blowing performances by the whole cast. The story revolves around a medical student who joins IPS to wipe out the terrorists from his country who also killed is brother and severely injured his father.
Released in 2016, this one stars Akshay Kumar and Nimrat Kaur in the leading roles. The story revolves around an Indian businessman settled in Kuwait with his family. When Iraq invades Kuwait the life of his fellow countrymen is in danger. How he risks his life to save his people and bring them back to their country is inspiring to watch.
Released in 2015, this one stars Akshay Kumar, Anupam Kher, Tapsee Pannu, Rana Daggubati in the lead roles. The story revolves around an elite team of Indian Intelligence Officers who try to detect and eliminate plans of terrorists. One such operation is lead by Officer Ajay where they plan to hamper the plans of terrorists who intend to do multiple bombings in the country and disrupt the lives of civilians.
Released in 2004, this one stars Shah Rukh Khan and Gayatri Joshi in lead roles. The story revolves around SRK who works with NASA visits India to take his nanny back to US with him. While his stay in India he realises that his village needs his help and how he can improve and help his fellow villagers. Considered to be a cult classic the film has its share of happy moments and moments when you realise where do you actually belong!
